Alternative Spring Break

Volunteers play a crucial role in day to day operations of non-profits around the globe. Your actions really do make a difference, even in a short space of time. March is the start of nesting season for the leatherback turtle, and our presence on the beach is vital for her to nest in safety. You will meet like-minded people, and get hands on experience in field work - which boosts your resume! Whilst many may just want to party, how many opportunities will you get to work with an endangered species on an unspoilt, remote caribbean beach? Four days without technology and breathing the fresh ocean air will rejuvenate you like never before.

Volunteers will assist our staff in the preparation of the hatchery - where thousands of leatherback turtle eggs will be incubated. At night, you will accompany our staff and local guides on nocturnal patrols to look for nesting turtles, in order to collect important data, and to relocate the eggs to safety. Dont worry - you will have down time to enjoy the beach!

What dates are available?

There will be three start dates - please contact us for information. The itinerary is as follows:

Day 1 - Arrive into San Jose and make your way to our meeting point hostel. We can organize airport pick up for an extra cost

Day 2 - Transfer to Pacuare beach - 2.5 hours from San Jose to the Docks, and 45 minutes by boat through caribbean canals. You will receive full training upon arrival and be assisgned your first shift.

Day 3 - Continue your important work at Pacuare field station

Day 4 - Continue your important work at Pacuare field station

Day 5 - Leave the station in the knowledge that you have participated in the conservation of endangered Sea Turtles. As your reward, you will take an adrenaline filled class III and class IV white water rafting trip down the world famous Pacuare River! Lunch is included and our transport will return you to our meeting point in San Jose

Included in the fee:

• Transport from San Jose - Pacuare - San Jose. Including the return boat journey
• 3 nights accommodation at our research station
• 3 meals per day whilst at the Research Station ( all diets catered for)
• Training by our profesional onsite biologist
• All materials and equipment used for conservation activities
• White water rafting trip on the Pacuare River
• Long sleeved lycra Tshirt, perfect for night patrols and rafting!

All particiopants MUST have valid travel or health insurance and will be asked to provide a copy of this before travelling to the Project.

Minimum numbers apply to all dates - in order to keep costs at a minimum. You can travel alone, or with friends and colleagues - but the minimum number of participants is 7 for each start date.
